Manual Software OCAx 1.3.x

Welcome to the OCAx software wiki. Here you will find all the information you'll need to get the most out of your installation. We do our best to keep this wiki updated as the project progresses.

Together with the forum http://agora.ocax.net (where we offer online support), the wiki will help you get your own OCAx up and running.

Software presentation

OCAx has been designed as a tool you can use to form a Citizens' municipal observatory in your town and audit the local council. OCAx is free software.

OCAx gives us a way for everyone to interact with our council in a public fashion and in doing so, share the learnt information with the rest of the citizenship. It is a place to learn, share, and battle for the right to information access in the most transparent manner possible.

But, what does OCAx mean and how many observatories use it?

Features

We suggest that anyone who is starting to use OCAx read this section. You don't have to memorize it, but it is a good idea to be familiar with it.

OCAx has two basic functions:

  • Visualizing budgets making budgetary information more accessible.
  • Formulating enquiries for the administration to answer, and making them public.

A part from these two basic functions, OCAx also includes:

  • Online help, built into OCAx and available as contextual help wherever you see the Help icon.

Installation and updates

OCAx is a LAMP application with the normal requirements.

Installation
Here are three different ways to install OCAx:

When installed, follow the post-installation instructions to finish configuring OCAx.

Upgrading
OCAx will notify the admin when a new version is available and links to the upgrade procedure.

Development

To everyone who's interested in collaborating with the OCAx-OCM project writing code to improve the software or making translations of the software or other related resources, welcome!

If you want to get involved, please come and see us here http://agora.ocax.net/c/ocax/develop

All sorts of things can be done to improve OCAx.

  • Developing software
  • Compiling documentation
  • Usability and accessibility
  • Design
  • Help us develop an Installation, maintenance and backup system

You can find our git repository here. http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/ocax.git

Translations

OCAx can be used anywhere by anyone who wants to audit their local council. More translations mean more people will understand OCAx and this will mean more installations and eventually more auditing. Translations help the community grow.

If you can translate, Welcome!
